Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Teen Advisory Board?
A Teen Advisory Board, or TAB, is an organization for teens run by teens. It allows teens the power to create and plan events teens want to attend. It gives teens the opportunity to help pick the new books they want to read for additions to the library's YA selection. It offers the chance to learn new skills and earn volunteer hours.
Why should I join?
There are a variety of benefits to being a member of TAB. Applicants get a chance to practice interviewing for a board position, with optional feedback. Members earn volunteer hours for attending meetings and helping set up events. Members in good standing can use the TAB Advisor as a reference, as well as request a recommendation letter when needed. Members can also participate in a book shopping spree for the library once a year from funds raised by TAB.
How long is a term?
A full term is August through July.
How often are meetings held?
Regular meetings will be held every second Thursday at 5:30PM. Food is sometimes provided (notified ahead of time).
How do I become a member?
Please check above to see which TAB positions are open. While most of the time positions will be opening towards the end of a term, sometimes openings will become available in the middle of the term. If there is an opening, please either submit the completed application in the library, or by email to [email protected].
